(The Center Square) – Southern California residents experienced something overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning they haven’t seen in months: a blanket of dark clouds and on-again and off-again showers.

But the weather remains fairly warm, with highs in the mid-70 to the 80s as the region deals with the remnants of Tropical Storm Mario, according to recorded information from the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.

The weather service website said there could be isolated heavy rain on Thursday and Friday. The agency added there’s a possibility of flooded roads, debris flows and isolated strong winds throughout Southwest California.

TV meteorologists in Los Angeles said there's a chance of flash flooding, especially in the mountain and desert areas Thursday afternoon.

Showers, typically at a 50% chance, are forecast through Thursday night, along with a chance of thunderstorms, in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties, according to the weather service's offices in Oxnard and San Diego.

The chance of rain is higher farther north in Santa Barbara County, at 70% on Thursday, and the county has a chance of thunderstorms.

Santa Barbara County could see as much as a quarter inch of rain, the weather service said.

And away from the coast, there was a chance of showers in inland areas such as Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

In eastern Ventura County, Simi Valley stopped seeing rain by mid-morning Thursday after getting overnight precipitation. But the lingering overcast, more typical of Southern California's June gloom than its usual sunny September, suggested showers could return to the city, which is near Los Angeles.

A lesser chance of rain for Southern California is forecast for Friday. The National Weather Service expects the sun to return by the weekend.

The agency added there’s a chance of showers on Monday through Wednesday.
