The Denver Community Fridge program has expanded to four locations since it started collecting food for the hungry and homeless a little more than a month ago. The Denver Post reports the public refrigerators are decorated and placed outside businesses for anyone who needs food. Founder Eli Zain doesn't monitor the fridges, but volunteers and business owners have reported heavy traffic. He says the negative stigma around accepting free food may be strong, but so is the need for assistance amid record unemployment and paltry federal assistance during the pandemic. A similar program is expected to start in Boulder in the coming months.
