Tillerson Fired Over Rogue Bid to Save Iran Nuke Deal

Many questions floated around on Tuesday over the reason for the abrupt firing of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

But the Washington Free Beacon reports his departure follows months of infighting between the State Department and White House over Tillerson’s attempts to save the Iran nuclear deal and ignore President Trump's demands to either fix or completely scrap the deal.

For the last few weeks, Tillerson had reportedly caved to European pressure to walk back demands to fix the nuclear deal and, instead sought to preserve the deal as is.

The Beacon says White House allies had warned Tillerson's senior staff for weeks that efforts to save the nuclear deal and ignore Trump's demands for fixes could cost Tillerson his job.

Trump fired Tillerson via a tweet on Tuesday.
