President Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort is reportedly being kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day ahead of his July 25 trial.

Axios reports newly released court documents explain that Manafort’s safety cannot be guaranteed otherwise while he is in prison.

Led by special counsel Robert Mueller, Manafort has been indicted on charges including money laundering and bank fraud.

Manafort's bail was later revoked by a judge after charges of witness tampering were made. His legal team is appealing that decision.

They argue that imprisoning Manafort in solitary at a facility two hours away from his legal team is hampering his ability to defend himself.
