Democrats to Investigate Why Trump Wants U.S. Citizens Counted on 2020 Census

House Democrats who are chomping at the bit to launch a host of investigations into the Trump presidency are reportedly planning to “immediately” investigate the reason President Trump wants American citizens counted on the upcoming 2020 Census.

Breitbart reports Democrats, led by Rep. Elijah Cummings, who will chair the House Oversight Committee, told Reuters he wants to investigate why the Trump administration announced in March that it was putting the citizenship question back on the 2020 Census.

The citizenship question on the census is necessary to figure out state congressional representation.

But for 70 years, the census has not asked people if they are American citizens, making it impossible for the federal government to know the size of the citizen population versus the immigrant population in the country.
