Nate Bargatze, a Grammy-nominated stand-up comedian from Nashville, Tennessee, will star in his feature film debut next year with the movie "The Breadwinner," which he also co-wrote and is producing. Bargatze, who's known for having a clean style of comedy, was the world's top-grossing comic in 2023 and 2024. In the upcoming film, he will team up with Weird: The Al Yankovic Story director Eric Appel for a comedy he describes as "in the vein of Mr. Mom and Home Alone."

The comedian also announced the news of the movie on social media, with the release date of March 13, 2026.

During a January interview with RELEVANT, Bargatze expressed his excitement about filmmaking for the first time ever.

"It's going to be hard to make something and then have to wait to see it," he says. "I'm used to immediate reactions. Plus, I don't know the first thing about making a movie. I'm excited to figure it all out—what works, what's funny, what needs tweaking. It's going to be a whole new world, and I can't wait to learn."

He also spoke of his start in comedy at 23 years old in a gradual climb from clubs toward bigger stages. Since then, he has been nominated for a Grammy and has released several comedy specials on Netflix, including his latest special "Your Friend, Nate Bargatze."

"When I was coming up, comedians had a system," Bargatze says. "I was in New York. You'd do eight minutes on Comedy Central, Live at Gotham. Then you'd do a half-hour special. Then, eventually, you'd get an hour. There was this clear path you were always working toward."

Additionally, Bargatze has launched a family-friendly content company, Nateland, aimed at creating content suitable for all ages.

In an interview last month with his friend and podcaster, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Bargatze spoke on how God was watching over him and guiding him in his career.

"God has a path, and I'm just here to follow the path, so I just kind of wait and see where the doors open," he said.
